80% Loss Ratio is Proof of Health Care Reform Stupidity
At first glance, everyone likes the idea of carriers having to pay out 80% of premiums in claims. It seems only fair that the carrier only gets to keep 20% for profit. Except for the fact that the 20% is not profit but rather the amount the company gets to use to cover all costs of doing business. What other business can be told how much money they can use to keep the doors open.

Commission Compression
Well, it has started. Talk about how commissions will be "compressed" under the new Health Care Bill. Compressed is a really nice word for lowered. With the MLR (minimum loss ratio) as the reason, some have started to say that commissions will have to be lowered or at the very least, a per member amount will have to be used. Janet Trautwein (president of National Health Underwriters) has been quoted saying that the days of percentage based commissions are limited.

Any Other Oenophiles Out There
With summer fast approaching and knowing that those summer evenings sitting out on the deck with a glass of wine being some of the best, I thought I would see if anyone is interested in wine. I personally love to have a glass of red wine in the evening. I prefer the big, bold flavors of cabs, shiraz, petite syrah, zins, but will try most any wine.

15%, REALLY?
Well, the primary election was Tuesday the 11th and according to early data, 15% of the electorate actually voted. With everyone yelling and screaming about the problems with our government and the "takeover" of healthcare, only 15% of the people wanted their voices heard. Oh, I know, it was just the primary and one vote really doesn't mean anything. Oh, the weather wasn't good and I was real busy. Oh, I will vote when it really means something.

OCI - Obama Care Inc.
Some one suggested that OCI stands for Obama Care Incorporated and in some ways; it is probably closer than any other guess. With the changes that we will see and the ultimate goal of many, how far off is a single payer system. In fact, much of what I have seen in the bill makes me think that was the intention from the beginning. Why else would you do some of the things that make absolutely no sense in the...

What Is OCI, And What Does It Stand For
Sometimes when you are too close to something, you don't see it correctly. I have over the last week or two, moved back and realized that there are many people who have no idea who OCI is and what it is exactly that we do. I have always assumed that everyone knew OCI was a wholesaler and that we don't sell directly to the client. We work with professional brokers and agents and provide back room support to assist them...

WHAT IS DONE, IS DONE, NOW WHAT?
We can't go back and change what's been done. No matter what you may hear, I don't see the health care bill being repealed in its entirety. You may see some aspects of it changed or altered and even some funding stopped, but the damage is irreversible. There will be too much money and resources used to comply with the new law that carriers and providers will be reluctant to go back and have to re-tool again.

REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER
Well, it’s official. Our government has finally decided that the will of the people is not important and that they, the elite, know better than the populace. The house of representatives (purposely left in non capitalization) caved in like I feared, to the socialist agenda that has taken over in Washington. No longer does freedom allow Americans to choose what to buy and from whom. The takeover of 17% of our economy will sooner or later lead to a single...
