Assurant Health announced today that it will cease offering health insurance. Please read the statement below for more information:

In late April, we shared the news about Assurant, Inc.’s decision to explore strategic alternatives for Assurant Health. At that time, we told you we’d inform you when we had more information and, now, we have an important update to share.

Assurant, Inc., has concluded the review of its health business and will exit the Individual Medical, Small Group Fully Insured and Short Term Medical markets.

  • The last day for sales of these products will be June 15, 2015.
  • The wind down of these product lines will begin immediately and we expect to substantially complete the exit by the end of 2016.
  • The company will meet all claims, benefits, provider payments and agent commission responsibilities during this transition.

We know you likely have many questions—we’ve addressed them in an agent Q&A. Know that as we transition out of these markets, we’ll continue to update you.

We are pleased to tell you that we are finalizing the sale of our remaining business lines, including Small Group Self-Funded and Assurant Supplemental Coverage, as well as the North Star Marketing distribution channel, to National General Holdings Corp, subject to formal documentation and regulatory approval. We’ll share full details when we have them. Until then, you can continue to sell these products to meet customer needs.

While our business has been through an enormous amount of change, one thing that hasn’t changed is our appreciation of our valued agent sales partners. Together, we’ve been part of a 123-year legacy of providing our customers with innovative, quality products and the support of knowledgeable and dedicated sales partners like you. Thank you for being part of the Assurant Health family. We wish you nothing but future success.
