No, unfortunately the loss of Medicaid coverage does not trigger a guarantee issue period.  They will have to go through medical underwriting to get a Supplement.

Try putting in the age as 65 instead of using the birthday for someone who hasn’t quite turned 65 yet.  AGB will only populate the Medicare Supplement rates for an individual 65 and older in Nebraska.

Plans F and C will be discontinued for no new enrollments for anyone who’s Medicare Part A is effective on or after 1/1/2020.  Without any newly 65 people able to enroll, we expect the premiums will increase dramatically after 2020. It might be a good idea to rewrite the business to plan G (if your client is healthy enough).

  • If they are activating Part B for the first time, they have an open enrollment period for any Medicare Supplement plan of their choice.
  • If they activated when they turned 65, they are eligible for Plan A, B, C, F, K, or L only if sold by the carrier– no Plans G or N without going through medical underwriting.
  • For Medicare Supplements, you can split the commission 50/50 with an OCI agent by referring the client to OCI.
  • For Medicare Advantage, OCI will process the application and you will receive a one-time referral bonus of up to $100 for new enrollments and $50 for renewals
  • OCI will also enroll your clients in Part D but there is no split commission as the comp is too low.

The BCBSNE Medicare Advantage policies are on the limited-distribution model and choice agents were preselected based on prior business written with OCI.

Medicare Advantage and Part D: October 15th through December 7th. There is no annual enrollment period for Medicare Supplements

Medicare Supplement open enrollment is a six month period beginning the firs to of the month of the individual’s birth month and/or the effective date of their Medicare Part B.  For example: John Smith turns 65 August 3, 2017 but retires 12/31/2017.  If he chooses to enroll in Medicare Part B when he is first eligible on August 1st, he will have one six month open enrollment window ending at the end of January in 2018.  If he decides to keep his group insurance until he retires and activates his Part B on January 1, 2018, then his open enrollment window runs from January through the end of June in 2018.

Your client must be over age 65 and already be signed up for Medicare Parts A & B.

BCBS updated their enrollment website for 2017.  Use this link with the same username and password as before and you will be able to enroll your client in the Medicare Supplement plans.

In most states, if you enroll in a private health insurance plan any time between November 1 and December 15 and make your first premium payment by the due date specified by your plan, your new health coverage starts January 1.

After that, if you enroll between the 1st and 15th day of the month and pay your premium by the due date, your coverage begins the first day of the next month. So if you enroll on January 10, 2016, your coverage begins February 1, 2016.

If you enroll between the 16th and the last day of the month and pay your premium by the due date, your effective date of coverage will be the first day of the second following month. So if you enroll on January 16, 2016, your coverage starts on March 1, 2016.

If you have certain life changes – like having a baby, getting married, or losing other qualified health coverage—you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.

November 1: Open Enrollment starts — the first day you can enroll in a Marketplace plan

December 15: Open Enrollment ends

January 1: First date new coverage can start
