STM 12×3 Plan Perks

  • Next Day Effective Dates: Coverage starts the very next day

  • Portability: Coverage travels with customers when they move to another state

  • Child-Only Plans: Issue at 60 days

12×3 plans are available in most states, starting on August 14, 2025

On August 7, 2025 the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced it will not enforce the 2024 STM duration limits while reviewing rules—opening the door for states to allow short-term medical plans lasting up to 12 months and renewable for up to 3 years.

This update means more choices for consumers who need temporary, budget-friendly coverage during life transitions—and more opportunities for agents to deliver high-value, flexible solutions.

Here’s what this means for you:

  • Expanded coverage options for your clients

  • Increased retention and lifetime value per policy

  • Rising demand from clients seeking flexible coverage

At Pivot Health by Healthcare.com, we’ve been preparing for this change and are ready to roll out longer-duration STM plans as soon as states finalize their guidance. We’ll continue working closely with regulators to ensure products are innovative, transparent, and compliant.

Stay tuned—we’ll share timelines the moment enhanced plan options are ready on our platform.

OCI is waiting to hear back from UnitedHealthcare (UHC) regarding STM plans. Keep an eye out for updates.
